They only need to request it. The cancellation of the surcharge can be initiated by the vehicle operator within 75 days from the date of delivery of the payment notice."

It is important to emphasize that anyone wishing to take advantage of this option must under no circumstances pay the imposed fine in advance, as the exemption can only be applied to unpaid penalties. To replace the fine, the national annual vignette must be newly purchased, and the application must be submitted to the competent authority within the 75-day exclusion period from the receipt of the payment notice.
